Tuesday Tunes- Wedding Dance Party Music

Hello everyone.  I've been working pretty hard on the music for our wedding the last few weeks. I've been trying to find a nice blend of music that will make everyone happy, without Mallory and I having to make too many compromises against our taste in music.  The ultimate goal is to find music we listen to that all guests, including pop kids and the older folks, will enjoy.  Here are some of the choices I've made so far to get our dance party started (that aren't from Watch The Throne).

Passion Pit- Little Secrets

This song starts out with synth and hand clapping.  I'm not sure how anyone wouldn't want to get out on the dance floor and show off their mad dance skills all night.

 

 

David Byrne & St. Vincent - Who

A song full of so many different instruments is basically asking for a dance party.  They're even dancing in the video.  This song has such a good blend of brass instruments that it almost feels like it's from another era.  Plus, it's David Byrne and St. Vincent, of course it rules.

 

 

Walk The Moon - Anna Sun

This may be a song that a lot of people will know at the wedding.  Walk The Moon seems to be continuing to gain more followers as each week goes.  The catchy vocal and melody line will quickly have everyone singing and dancing along.

Senior Collection Design Process

A few weeks ago I met up with two of my classmate friends with our senior collection sketches and mockups.  We met at the downtown Coffee Emporium to talk it all through.  Deb is working on a workout wear collection inspired by lingerie, and Megan's working on a very artistic, ethereal collection inspired by trees.  As I'm sure you'd expect from me, my collection is wearable and a little mod.  All three of us couldn't be farther apart, so our different viewpoints are really fantastic to talk things through.  I got a lot out of our little coffee date.

I have my four looks pretty well chosen, though I need to think a bit more about accessories and jackets.  The only thing I'm unsure about in my mind is my color scheme so I've ordered lots of swatches from Mood.  I'm sure there will be a teal/turquoise color in the mix because I never feel complete without it, but the rest I'm unsure.  It's my big debate.  Though, if that's my biggest worry I feel on track.  I take that back, I still need to find 4 models... but I'll make it work. xo, Mallory

Store Progress!

Here's what I've been up to lately: I have gotten all of my businessy stuff finished, worked at MyHabit a lot, and today I have begun editing product photos and building my online store!  I still need to write real descriptions with dimensions and figure out shipping costs.  I shared a little corner of the preview above, and did you notice that you're getting a look at two of my products?!  I have more production sewing to go, but as soon as it's done my store should be ready to launch and you can buy some Mallory brand stuff!!!!!!!!  I'm hoping to launch my own store before the end of November.  Fingers crossed!  Honestly, even my toes are crossed in hopes!

Oh, and I'll be in Springfield, MO November 4th-15th working with those amazing A Beautiful Mess ladies!  I'll still blog while I'm there.  Love, Mallory

Tuesday Tunes- New Local Natives

It may be Wednesday, but here is an awesome Tuesday Tunes.  I really loved the first Local Natives album, Gorilla Manor.  Well, they released a single titled Breakers off their upcoming sophomore album yesterday.  I am fairly certain that this new album should be just as amazing and complex as the first.  I'll probably buy it on iTunes the day the album releases, January 29th. xo, Mallory

Outfit- Wavy Hairs

I have been growing my hair out for a while (mostly for my wedding).  It's right at that super annoying length where I want to chop it off to be above my shoulders.  In a ponytail it tickles my neck.  When it's down there's a weird flippy thing at my shoulders.  To keep from making a haircut appointment last week I curled my hair, brushed it out, and for an afternoon I loved my wavy hair.

Oh, I also wore some clothes while my hair was all wavy.  Sweater is J. Crew, jeans are Michael Kors, boots are Guess (via TJ Maxx),  and necklace is vintage.

Hair can be such a weirdly bothersome thing.  On another note, I truly love this beautiful Kentucky fall and my mom's Halloween decor.  Photos also by my mega awesome mom.  xo, Mallory

Pumpkin Farm!

Last Saturday the whole family went to the pumpkin farm.  It's my favorite fall tradition!  This year was Beckett's first time!  Also, Dash refused to smile in a picture with me and instead insisted upon telling me secrets.

Tuesday Tunes- New to Us Bands

Hello there!  I'm going to jump right in this week with some new releases that have come in the last few weeks.  I would mention Ben Gibbard's new album, but come on you already knew about that. The Mountain Goats- Transcendental Youth This is one of the more unique bands I've recently stumbled upon.  Musically, they are great, and when it comes to lyrics and melody, it's much more interesting.  The singer almost seems more like a storyteller rather than a singer.  It's pretty neat.  It may take a few times to appreciate it, but give it a chance. Sun Airway- Soft Fall I am in love with the musicianship on this album.  I get so tired of hearing the common guitar, drum, and bass bands, so it's always refreshing to hear something new and different.  Also, the album art is probably one of my favorites of 2012. Dirty Projectors- Swing Low Magellan I'm not real sure when this album came out, but I know it was this year.  It's pretty new to me so it's fine.  It makes me feel like winter time is right around the corner and I should be in a cabin somewhere.  It doesn't really have that feel, but it seems like it would be pleasant at a time like that. Engagement Photos #3 (& final)

I was a jerk and told Jeremy not to make this one ^ too cheesy.  Of course I should have trusted him because it is a BEYOND beautiful shot!!!  The lighting is perfection.

After our stroll around Bellevue we headed to the Bellevue Beach Park for some shots during sunset.  We entered a 'No Trespassing' area to get downtown Cinci in the background.  Then we went down some really rickety stairs (on private property still) for the ones where we're standing on rocks in the Ohio River.  We're so rebellious :)

Engagement Photos #2

 After shooting in a studio Brian, Jeremy, Andrew, and I headed to our favorite ice-cream shop, Schneider's.  It's in Bellevue, where we want to live after the wedding.  My dad's family is from Bellevue, and my grandma used to take me to Schneiders very often as a child.  Just the smell walking in makes me all giddy.  I'm sentimental.  After a bird pooped on my head Brian cleaned it off, we recovered, and took our ice creams a few blocks to sit on a bench in front of our church where we're getting married!!!  I'll share one more engagement post tomorrow then back to our regularly scheduled programming.  xo, Mallory

Engagement Photos #1

The day after Brian proposed I asked my friend Jeremy Kramer to take our engagement photos.  We work together at Amazon.  Lately he's been doing a LOT of freelance work for things like Her Magazine, OATW, and some environmental portraits.  He's incredibly sweet, enthusiastic, and very talented.  Anyway, he took them, and his friend Andrew Doench assisted him.  I just can't seem to narrow the photos to share down any further, so I'll share them in 3 posts.  The first post is all the (kinda) formal photos we took in a studio!
