wardrobe- Trend Edition: Neutrals AND boxy!

Outfit details:
sunnies- Hot Topic haha!
sheer blouse- Urban Outfitters
belt- NY & Co. from high school
gray jeans- mens Levi's (these are actually Brian's, thanks)
sandals- Urban Outfitters

It's trend outfit time again!  A few weeks ago I wrote this post about upcoming trends and I've been posting corresponding outfits.  This look illustrates the new neutrals and the boxy tops trend!  I wore it to The Taste of Cincinnati this weekend.

The key to wearing boxy tops is to accentuate your legs so they look skinny.  If you decide to wear a boxy crop top wear high waists.  I've seen way too much tummy lately when girls wear crops with hip rise pants.   Leave something for the imagination please :).  Also, that way it looks a bit too 90s/early 2000s.

Neutrals are super easy to wear.  If you want to wear an outfit of all neutrals try to add a pop of color, a metallic, or a really great texture.  Remember avoiding an ALL black look is the goal here.

Good luck!

Adventures with The Boy- Antique Mall

On Friday Brian and I went to one of our FAVORITE antique malls.
I wore these shoes.

Brian played me some sweet music then swooned over these vintage bikes.

When it comes to thrifting and antiquing Brian focuses on music gear, furniture, old toys, comics, and travel themed things- globes, bikes, luggage, nautical.  I tend to look at fashion, bikes, furniture, kitchenware, scout gear, and anything in a nice color palette.

This time I went home with an hat from the 40s, and Brian went home empty handed.
Did you find anything good this weekend?  Leave me some photo links :)

Do you remember that I'm explaining how to wear some current/upcoming trends (explained here)?  Well, here is my sheer outfit!  Sheers aren't as scary as they may seem.  Think of them as a layering pieces.  Some daring people wear them with fancy panties and underthings.  I may try it with a cute bandeau as the weather continues to warm, but for the most part think about layering sheer tops and dresses over AND under tops and dresses.  You can play with patterns or color blocking like I did.  Most importantly, have fun with it!

60s makeup tutorial

60s makeup tutorial

My sweet neighbor Jill loves to do makeup.  She mentioned a while ago that she wanted to do my makeup for some of my outfit photos.  She did it in this post, and we decided to find some looks we wanted to recreate.  This week we went with this look from this Richard Avedon Harper's Bazaar cover.

60s makeup tutorial

Here is how she did it!

60s makeup tutorial

1. Start by sweeping Clinique foundation all over face. Next, prepare the eyes by applying NARS Smudge Proof eyeshadow base all over the lid. Mattify the lid with MAC's Brulee, a nice matte neutral color. Over this, apply MAC Shroom.

2. With a pointed pencil brush (I used a MAC 219) apply the MAC Chocolate brown pigment (wet) in a strong line where the crease is. You may choose to blend this out with a fluffy brush like I did, or leave the line strong (5).
3. Next, line the upper lashline with MAC Blacktrack fluidline. I chose to add a little liner wing to this look, but it is not required. To fill in your brows, select a complimentary shade. For Mallory, I chose MAC's Wedge eyeshadow. Apply this within the natural brow shape to enhance the brows.

4. Now, onto the cheeks. Sweep Clinique Peony All Over Face Colour onto the tops of the cheekbones for the sculpted look. I also chose to add a highlight with Benefit's High Beam on top.
6. Next, prepare your lashes. You may use any that you wish, but we used self-adhesive lashes that Mallory had. Once you have them applied, apply mascara and curl them. Apply mascara liberally, the lashes in this look are intense.
7. For the lips, Apply MAC's In Synch lipliner as a base for the lipstick. On top, use a frosty pink like Urban Decay's peroxide to finish.

This look is straight out of the 60's but can easily be modernized!

Just a note

I'm currently beading my swimwear.  My eyes were starting to cross so I started looking at my inspiration file.  I think this Virgin Suicides screen stills collage is a perfect fit for my current favorite styles and colors.  Plus, who doesn't love Sofia Coppola?

Wardrobe- Gingham and a project.

All week I've been working on this corset for my draping class.  I used the sheer stripe vintage fabric flatted to a natural color canvas.  It was intense to make, but I'm so excited by the final garment!  I'm not sure how psyched my parents were when I was hammering grommets at 2 am.  What can you do :)

I took these photobooth photos while working on it, just to document these awesome shorts.  I bought them, an awesome 70s dress, and a Paul Simon record during Brian and I's stop in STL last weekend!

details:
shirt- borrowed from Mom
necklace- Gabriel Brothers forever ago
belt- thrifted Land's End
shorts- vintage from Avalon Exchange
tights- Target

Today I'm working all day on my swimsuits!  I'm pretty excited, I love getting to dedicate a whole day to a project.  I also only have 2 more weeks of classes then in another 2 weeks I leave for Springfield!  So insane!

Larson Wedding Roadtrip (photo-heavy)

Roadtrip!

Hesher and the Room!

On Saturday, May 14th Brian and I drove to St. Louis and saw Hesher, shopped, and got barbeque!  I was really bummed it was so rainy, because I couldn't carry my camera around.  The next morning we got up early and drove the final 3.5 hours to Springfield, for Elsie and Jeremy's wedding.
